Sverdlovsk Regional Court in Russia has sentenced dual citizen of Russia and the US Ksenia Karelin to 12 years in prison for treason, Interfax reported today.
According to the verdict, Karelin was also fined 3,000 euros.
The regional court’s press service stated that the accused had admitted guilt and the verdict would come into force 15 days after the ruling if the parties did not appeal.
Earlier, it was reported that the prosecution had sought a 15-year prison sentence for Karelin.
Karelin was arrested and charged with treason for a donation she made to the non-profit organization Together for Ukraine.
According to Russian investigators, she sent money to purchase tactical medicines, equipment, weapons, and ammunition for the Ukrainian army.
The court stated that Karelin had made the funds transfer in the interest of one of the Ukrainian organizations since February 2022.
