Boston Celtics basketball player Kristaps Porzingis will be off the court for six months after undergoing surgery on his left ankle. The Latvian was injured during the second game of the finals against Dallas. He then missed the next two games but returned in the fifth game of the playoffs, scoring five points in 16 minutes to help the Celtics win their record-breaking 18th title.
Boston announced that Porzingis will need five to six months of rest, meaning his return to the court is expected towards the end of this year or the beginning of next year. He will also be unable to help the Latvian national team in the Olympic qualifying tournament in Paris next month.
The power forward thanked everyone for their support on social media. „Thanks for the support! Everything went smooth. Now will take time to heal up and get ready to go again,“ wrote the Latvian.
Last season, Porzingis averaged 20 points and seven rebounds in 57 games played.
The head coach of the United States national basketball team, Steve Kerr (58), praised the Serbian national team.
