Situation with Energy Costs in the UK: Citizens Advice Survey Shows Concerns

A new study by the British organization Citizens Advice shows that one in four people in Britain is so concerned about the rise in energy costs that they say they will be forced to turn off heating and hot water this winter.

Survey respondents said they will have to take these drastic steps if the upper limit of energy prices in Britain rises by the predicted amount of £150 (€176), or by 9.2 percent.

Heating will be turned off by 31 percent of households with children and 39 percent of low-income users, according to their own words.

Citizens Advice warns that without urgent government intervention in London, households in Britain will continue to face impossible choices and drastic cuts in order to afford heating their homes.

As stated on the organization’s website, 34 percent of those surveyed said they will struggle to afford food or other basic necessities during the winter, such as mortgage or rent, and seven percent said they will have to skip meals.
